‘2025’

17th January 2025.

We have made a flying start to 2025 with new projects getting off the ground (literally!) in the first couple of weeks.

Our Groundworks team has been hard at it, digging the foundations and pouring the concrete footings for a new Brewery building.  The steel for this building will be heading into our workshop soon, ready for our Fabrications team to commence the fabrication of this large building.

Our Steelwork team have erected the steel for a new railway carriage shed this week, this was fabricated and painted by our in-house Fabrication team.  The cladding for this building will be going up in the next few days!

There’s not much our teams can’t construct!

‘Back British Farming’

We’ve been backing British Farming since we first started constructing Agricultural Buildings over 38 years ago.

We have always supported farmers in the work we do and as a Company, knowing how hard farmers work day in, day out to provide us with healthy, honestly grown food.

Thank you to the NFU and farmers for rallying in London to try to overturn the Governments latest decisions regarding inheritance tax on family farms.  The NFU met with MPs today to discuss a way forward, we hope there will be a positive outcome that will help secure the future of farming for generations to come.

‘Covered Yards’

Have you applied for a grant for a covered yard but haven’t chosen your contractor yet?

Adding a covered yard to your farm buildings can improve livestock conditions by providing a cover for livestock movement between buildings, storage for machinery, to add solar panels or for water harvesting.

We can carry out all the works, from design through to all cladding and steelworks so get in touch with our team today.

‘Ten Tors 2024’

With students from Year 9 and above, they hiked unsupported for 35, 45 and 55 miles dependent upon age whilst carrying all they need for two days on Dartmoor. The event started at 7am on Saturday 11th May, including an overnight “wild camp”, and to be successful each team of six had to finish by 5pm on Sunday.

This is a culmination of many months of training, starting for some last September. Those that have attended all training events will have covered in excess of 300 miles, further than walking to Leeds!

‘North Dorset Careers Fayre, Sturminster Newton’

On the 6th March we attended the North Dorset Careers Fayre at The Exchange in Sturminster Newton. We have supported the Careers Fayre since it began a couple years ago, and it’s great to see it go from strength with this year being the busiest yet.

Many local schools attended the fayre to learn about the range of careers that are available in the local area, training and further education opportunities as well as general careers advice.  Students were challenged to speak with Employers and collect stickers each time they engaged in a converstation about work or education.  This was a great way to encourage students to engage and build their confidence in talking to Employers and educational providers.

We always enjoy beign able to help our local schools with understanding the opportunities our industry has to offer young people.

‘Award Winning Building’

CJ Cox Limited have just celebrated a year of their new Chard depot being open. The building was constructed by us in 2022 and is now an Award Winning building.  To commemorate the anniversary of the depot opening, and the building winning 2 national awards this year, Tom Rose, Managing Director installed a plaque on to the front of the building last month.

CJ Cox Ltd is an Agricultural Engineering business based in Bagber, Sturminster Newton and now also in Chard, Somerset.  Owned by Chris and Val Cox, the business was started in 1983 and has gone from strength to strength ever since.  Specialising in the supply and servicing of Valtra tractors, Merlo telehandlers, Krone grassland and Amazone tillage machinery, they have been operating for over 40 years.  ‘Providing a first-class service has always been, and will continue to be the main focus of our business’ , CJ Cox.

We have worked with CJ Cox many times over the years on various building projects as well as being a machinery customer of theirs, they provide an invaluable service within the agricultural sector but also to us providing machinery that we use for our construction projects.

Chris Cox had a clear vision on how he wanted the new depot to look visually and how it would function, starting with just a sketch from Chris, it was a pleasure to bring his vision to life.  The building was designed to incorporate traditional agricultural building elements with a modern commercial style to ensure the building was incorporated into the local environment, encompassing a large workshop, offices, board room, kitchen and staff facilities, shop and storage area.

In September 2023, we won the Commercial Building category for the new depot building and went on to be the Overall Winners at the RIDBA Awards in Cambridge. The Rural and Industrial Design and Building Association (RIDBA) is the leading trade association for the modern agriculture and industrial buildings industry in the UK.  They provide a collective voice for the construction sector, representing members to the wider industry and government.

The RIDBA Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the best in the industry and showcase some of the most accomplished construction projects from all over the country.  RIDBA had this to say about the awards: It’s always a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the best our industry has to offer and this year RIDBA members outdid themselves, supplying us with flying pigs and smashing the record number of entries across the eight categories.  It’s a cliché, but without those entries there is simply no event! They were all fantastic and a credit to the industry; thank you to everyone who entered.”

“It’s always great to work with Chris and CJ Cox.  We’re extremely proud that their new depot is now a multi award-winning building, everyone involved in the building worked so hard to achieve this.” Tom Rose, Managing Director, Rose Engineering.

“We are all extremely happy with the finished building, it has turned out better than I had originally imagined from my very first sketch.  Having worked with Rose Engineering before we knew we wanted them to take on this project for us as it was important we used a contractor we could trust.  I couldn’t have asked for a better team working on the project, they were professional and accommodating throughout, overcoming any challenges that arose and completed in good time ready for our open day.  The quality of workmanship has been exemplary and the building will meet our company needs now and in the future.“ Chris Cox, CJ Cox Limited.

Being able to help businesses expand and grow with new facilities is really important to us which is why we work with our clients’ ideas to provide a building or service that fits the needs of their business.

Thank you to Holt JCB Limited in Blandford for an excellent and speedy service as always.

JCB continue to provide the plant we need to be able to operate and provide a quality service to our clients.  Having our own plant enables us to be more competitive and flexible.

We’re looking forward to putting the new roller to use on site in the new year!

‘Calf Housing Grant’

Grants of between £15,000 and £500,000 are now available.

Adequate ventilation, humidity and temperature are crucial for calf rearing to allow calves to thrive and improve performance. Improved housing can lead to better growth and feed conversion for dairy, beef and calf units as well as better animal welfare.

‘You can apply for a grant if you’re an existing cattle farmer carrying out farming activity, including calf rearing, with 11 or more cattle. Any buildings you build or upgrade with money from the grant must be located in England.’

More information on the available grants can be found on the Defra website:
https://lnkd.in/ewpFsvWG

Replacing or upgrading a building can help achieve this.  Our teams are experienced in constructing housing for a variety of livestock as well as carrying out repairs and refurbishments on existing buildings.

Tom Rose, Managing Director said: “We are delighted to have won the Commercial Award at the RIDBA Awards for our work on CJ Cox’s new workshop building.  We were lucky to have a great client to work with on this project, Chris Cox of CJ Cox Limited who had a clear vision of what he wanted to achieve from the build, to be able to help him achieve this is exactly what we aim to do for our clients..”

Anita Beaumont, Finance & Marketing added “This is a national award so to even reach the finals was an great achievement but to go on to win our category as well as being the Overall Winners on the night is just amazing! Our whole team works so hard to be the best at what we do so this really shows their hard work is being recognised”.

A huge thank you to RIDBA for putting on a great awards evening and recognising the wonderful work Companies such as ours do in the Construction Industry.

‘Family Business of the Year – Winners!’

AND THE WINNER IS…ROSE ENGINEERING!

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that we won the Family Business of the Year Award for the South, South West & Wales region for 2023.

After making the trip from Dorset to London on Wednesday we attended the Family Business United Family Business of the Year Awards evening at The Royal College of Physicians. It was a wonderful evening with plenty of champagne and an entertaining awards ceremony. We’d like to say special thank you to Paul and Linda Andrews at Family Business United for organising such a lovely event and for all the hard work they do in promoting family businesses all over the country.

For a small family business based in rural Dorset to win a national award such as this makes us very proud. This is for all the hard work our entire team has put in over the years and continues to every day, it keeps getting better each year!

Congratulations to the other winners from the night, especially to GAP Group Limited who were the overall winners for the National Family Business of the Year Award, well done to you all!

‘Dorset Festival of Careers’

On Wednesday 3rd May, we attended the Dorset Festival of Careers, organised by The Dorset Careers Hub and hosted at the beautiful Kingston Maurward College in Dorchester.  The event included sessions with local schools attending as well as parents in the evening session.

With an abundance of local employers attending, young people were able to find out more about the career opportunities in the area and interact with potential employers.  We always like to support events such as these to ensure young people are aware of the opportunities in the construction industry and that there is more to putting up a building than bricks and diggers.

‘Perfect Planning’

Our Contracts Manager Matt has been working for us for almost 17 years!

Matt started working for Rose Engineering as a labourer and helping in the workshop as a young lad before taking on the role of Buyer for several years.  For the last 6 years Matt has been working in the Contracts department and more recently as our Contracts Manager.  His in-depth knowledge of our business and everything construction related makes him an invaluable member of our team.

The crucial part of his role as Contracts Manager is to plan and oversee all of our construction projects from start to finish ensuring all labour, materials and equipment is planned and allocated so our projects run smoothly.

When asked to summarise why he enjoys working at Rose Engineering, Matt commented: “It is just the best place to work; I have such varied role working across different sites and in the office and get to work with some of the nicest people.”

Working in a construction role across different industries on projects from agricultural barns to large industrial buildings gives all our employees variation in their work, whether they are on site or office based.

‘Charity Donation’

Just before Christmas we donated one of our vans to help a local food charity, The Vale Pantry.  The Pantry’s mission is to provide food, resources and services to any individual or family facing food insecurity, the new van will help them to collect and deliver resources to those who are otherwise unable to benefit, they currently help over 330 families living in North Dorset.

Tom Rose, Managing Director at Rose Engineering says, “When we heard that The Vale Pantry were looking for a van so they could reach more local people in need of their food service, we knew we wanted to help.  Our local community is important to us and we know especially in the current climate with living costs rising, many families and individuals are in need of their service.  They do such an amazing job and we hope the new ‘Pantry on wheels’ will be able to reach many more in need.”

Carole Jones, Trustee of The Vale Pantry said, “We really are so incredibly grateful to Tom and his amazing team at Rose Engineering who have helped make this dream a reality.  We are busier than we have ever been with approaching 340 families needing help.  This side of Christmas has seen a large number of new requests for help coming forward and our Van has arrived just at the perfect time.”

‘Farm Building Maintenance’

With Harvest done and although many farmers may still be busy with ploughing ready for next years crop, attention will turn to the repair and maintenance of equipment and buildings during the winter months.

We’re experts in repairing and refurbishing buildings to help you get the best out of them. This can range from re-cladding damaged sections (such as the building below), ensuring the building remains secure and useable, to installing a whole new roof.

Keeping buildings in good condition will allow assets such as machinery, livestock and crops to be kept secure and protected from the elements. It’s important that these repairs are done correctly and using a contractor such as ourselves will ensure the work is carried out to the highest standard and safely.

‘Rural Business invests in new Defibrillator’

Rose Engineering, a Dorset based Engineering and Construction Company has invested in a new defibrillator as part of their commitment to the local community.

“The health and welfare of our employees is always our main priority and with our rural office location we felt it was necessary to invest in this potentially lifesaving equipment that will also be available to the local community.

After carrying out additional First Aid training for our staff we decided that having a defibrillator closer to our office was not only beneficial to our workforce but to neighbouring businesses and residents.” Managing Director, Tom Rose.

The UK ambulance service attempts over 30,000 resuscitations each year with 72% of cardiac arrests occurring in the home and 15% in the workplace and it can happen to anyone.  We hope that making the new defibrillator available will give some peace of mind to our local area.

The defibrillator is available 24/7 and is sited at their main offices in Bagber, Sturminster Newton.  It is fully-automatic so it can be used without training by anyone that needs it, with easy to follow instructions and voice commands.   We hope that this new equipment will never need to be used but we would like to let our local community know that it is there should they need it.

‘Investing in Quality Equipment for Quality Construction’

We have recently invested in new plant equipment by purchasing a brand new JCB 86C-2 Midi Excavator and JCB CT260-120 Tandem Roller from Holt JCB Limited.

Being able to use reliable machinery helps us continue to offer our clients a first class construction service.  We have chosen JCB for many years due to the range and durability of their machines, which enables us to work on a whole variety of sites and projects, from large to small, Industrial & Commercial to Agricultural & Equestrian.

Our new machines have joined our existing plant fleet to help us provide our customers with quality new buildings, groundwork’s, drainage works and much more. They were put to work straight away on the groundwork of a new industrial building site in our local area.

We continue to invest in our company to ensure we can provide good working conditions and equipment for our employees to use and to offer the best service we can to our clients.

‘What makes us different to other frame manufacturers and construction companies?’

As well as fabricating and erecting standard new buildings we are experienced in taking on more complex and unusual projects.

Having our own in-house design team allows us to not only make standard steel framed buildings for the Agricultural and Industrial sectors but be able to design buildings which may be a bit different from the norm!

We love being able to bring our clients ideas to life, and work with our clients to help this happen by finding solutions to their building needs to help their businesses grow.  Our buildings can be designed with a multitude of options to be able to make buildings unique and completed they way our clients wish, such as the colour and style of cladding.

Working in a range of areas from farm sites to race courses, to large industrial estates, gives us a vast knowledge base and the skills and experience to tackle any type of construction project.

We’re unique in the way we are able to take a clients idea to design and planning, through to fabrication, all groundwork and final completion and everything in between, with all aspects completed and managed by us.

‘Buildings for Optimal Animal Health’

Our In House design team can design livestock and equestrian buildings to provide the most effective solutions for animal housing, keeping welfare a top priority.  Maintaining air quality within livestock housing is vital to reduce negative effects such as heat stress and excess water vapour – this all starts with the design process.  With this in mind, we design our buildings to give our clients the scope to produce a bespoke solution that works for them and their farming or business practices.

Using the most effective products available to us, a new or refurbished building will provide your livestock with a safe and healthy environment to thrive.  We ensure we use appropriate materials for their needs, from roof sheets to provide optimum ventilation to access solutions and adequate spacing for livestock, all incorporated into the building design.

We believe happy livestock are more productive which is why we strive to create an optimum environment for cattle, horses and other livestock allowing them to flourish and improve productivity.

To provide consistency and quality, all aspects of your project can be carried out by us – from the initial design process, through to fabrication in our modern workshop to all groundworks and steel erecting to final completion.  With a dedicated Contracts Manager assigned to each project, you can be assured that your building project is in safe hands.

Our buildings are UKCA Marked to ensure high standards of production for quality structures that will last.

’35 years of High Quality Buildings’

We’re proud to have constructed Agricultural and Industrial buildings (and much more!) for over 35 years now, continuing to grow and improve on the service we provide each year.  Whether a project is large or small, a complete build or repair we always aim for the best for our clients – providing quality structures with a first class service is what we do.

The past year has been tough for many industries but we have been very fortunate to continue to operate for a large amount of this time to ensure we maintain our ability to deliver our projects on time.  Our team have been dedicated to ensuring that work continues on site in a safe and practical way during the pandemic.

Our goal is to provide clients with buildings that work for their business practices, whatever this may be – our clients range from dairy farmers to concrete manufacturers!   We’re fortunate to have an incredibly adaptable and experienced team of designers, fabricators and site workers that enable us to achieve the best results for any project.

Being able to take on all aspects of a project from design, to groundwork and concreting, drainage works, fabricating the steel frame, steel erection to roofing and cladding gives our clients continuity throughout and using a supplier they trust to get the job done.

We believe our sustained success is due to our reputation for being a quality supplier of buildings and facilities with our attention to detail from the initial design through to fabrication and final completion being second to none.

‘Built to Last’

We always aim for the best for our clients; this has been part of our company core values for over 35 years – providing quality structures is what we do.   Being able to provide buildings and facilities that are of the highest quality comes from quality workmanship, a skilled workforce and dedication.

It’s always great to get feedback from clients after we have completed a project.  We recently received feedback regarding a project from a very happy customer.  ‘Well done, still looking extremely fresh after 18 months’.

The specification for this building was prepared by us and the building was constructed by our skilled teams over a year and a half ago and even though it’s location right on the coast means it is battered by wind and waves constantly there are no signs of rust or damage at all.

We strive to create buildings that are built for purpose, whatever they may be and ensure that the materials used will withstand the conditions and location that they will reside in.  Our design and estimating team work hard to ensure our buildings meet all the necessary standards so our clients can be confident that they have a structure that will last.

’20 Years Employed’

We are lucky to have some wonderful loyal employees here at Rose Engineering.  Before Christmas we celebrated another long standing employee’s length of service, Roy Moody who has worked for us for over 20 years as a highly skilled site worker.  He enjoys each working day, as ‘‘no day is the same!’’

Last year we also celebrated another of our employees 20 years of service, Adrian Rose.  Adrian works in our workshop as part of our fabrication team.

Having such an experienced team means we can ensure all our employees receive regular training and work to the high standards which form our Company’s Core Values, giving our clients the highest quality service and workmanship.

‘Excellence – We seek to achieve and maintain the highest level of excellence in the delivery of our products and professionalism of our employees. We will not compromise on the quality and finish of the products we offer and we require all our employees to take part in regular training schemes to ensure our standards remain at the highest level.’

‘Respect & Openness – We value our clients and employees and seek to treat one another with respect and in a way in which we would want to be treated. We are open to change and new ideas from our customers and employees, welcoming constructive comments and ideas from both.’

With an average length of service of 10 years across our site and fabrication teams, we feel proud to be providing a working environment that our employees can enjoy and progress in.  We’re grateful to have such a great team here that have been helping us provide high quality agricultural and commercial buildings and facilities for the last 35 years.
